Privacy Policy

Job Compass is a Chrome extension that helps you save and organise job listings from sites like LinkedIn, Indeed, and CV-Library. It extracts job details from the page you're viewing, analyses how well they match your profile, and optionally generates personalised cover letters.

The extension works in Private mode by default. You can opt in to a local bridge server running on your own computer. No data is sent to our servers — because we don't have any.

Here's exactly where your data goes:

The Gemini and Notion connections are entirely optional. They only activate after you enable Local AI Server and configure the provider credentials or CLI. Your server handles these requests.

✕  We collect nothing

In Private mode, the extension does not send your job or profile data to external servers. Enabling server mode can sync that data to your configured server and connected providers. The extension itself has:

• No usage analytics or telemetry
• No browsing history or page visits tracked
• No cookies set by the extension
• No background collection of personal identifiers for analytics
• No crash reports or error logs transmitted
• No fingerprinting or device identification

The extension stores the following data locally on your device:

• Bridge server URL — defaults to localhost:8765
• Extracted job data — title, company, location, description from pages you choose to save
• Your candidate profile — stored in this browser; optionally synced to your configured server
• Cover letter configuration — your preferred rules and intro text

All of this data resides on your computer. You can delete it at any time by removing the extension. If you enabled server sync, delete server and third-party copies separately. Export a backup before uninstalling.

Here's why the extension requests each permission:

No permission is used beyond its stated purpose. The extension never accesses pages outside of job listings on supported sites.

Job Compass can optionally connect to third-party APIs — but only if you provide the keys:

• Google Gemini API — powers several AI features. Job description text and candidate profile data are sent to Gemini for processing. Features include:
  • Generating personalised cover letters
  • Parsing manually entered job posting text (Add Job)
  • Refining and extracting tech skills from job descriptions
  • Analyse & Decide — scoring jobs and recommending Apply / Skip
  • Per-job AI chat (answering questions about specific jobs)
  Gemini can be accessed via CLI or API mode (user-configurable in settings). Governed by Google's API Terms.
• Notion API — used to save jobs to your Notion workspace. Job data is written to your own Notion database. Governed by Notion's Terms.
• Adzuna API — used for UK job searching. Only search queries are sent. Governed by Adzuna's Terms.
• Jooble API — used for European job searching. Only search queries are sent.

We have no affiliation with these services. You create your own accounts and manage your own API keys. The extension can store your keys unencrypted in your browser profile and send them to your configured server when you opt in. We do not operate that server.

✕  We never share or sell data

Since we don't collect any data, there's nothing to share or sell. Your job search activity, profile information, and cover letters remain entirely under your control.

Job Compass is a professional job search tool not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with a new effective date. Since Job Compass collects no data, significant changes are unlikely.

Website and extension

This policy describes the extension. The product website is served by Cloudflare and loads fonts from Google; visiting it makes ordinary web requests to those providers. The issue submission form is currently disabled.

You have complete control over your data:

• Access — all data is in your local SQLite database, fully readable
• Delete — remove the extension and delete the database file
• Portability — export your SQLite database anytime
• Revoke API access — remove your API keys from the .env file
